Car Insurance is Ridiculous.

So, after many many months of hard work and endeavour, I've passed my driving test! And boy am I pleased about it. Finally, no more stressing over driving lessons and worrying about passing that blasted test- I've finally done it.

The bad news? Car insurance is a joke. It really is.

I can afford a car, that's not a problem- there's plenty of cheap motors knocking around for people my age with a bit of money saved up. But trying to get the thing ready and road legal ends up more expensive than the car itself- especially if you're aged between 17-21.

Most of the quotes I've looked at are in the region of £2,700-£4,000 a year, and that's based on a small car, i.e. a 2002 1 litre Peugot 206 petrol with three doors. It doesn't really seem to matter whether it's fully comp or not either, it's expensive either way. My age is, of course, a big factor- so I may just wait until November for when I hit 21, because from what I've seen so far, it gets a bit cheaper.

Peugot 206, 2002 3-door model. One of my cars of choice right now.

Perhaps my postcode is a problem? I like like five minutes from Halesowen town centre. The area I live in is quite nice and quiet really, but then five minutes across a typically busy dual carriageway you have a well-frequented town centre- complete with a big 24-hour ASDA- and a separate multistory car park which is usually used by petrolhead chavs to create low-budget reenactments of their favourite scenes from Fast & Furious in clapped-out Citroen Saxos with spoilers and bike exhausts attached. My other obstacle is being male. My girlfriend- who is a couple years younger than me and not long passed her driving test- has had quotes that are around a grand cheaper, just because she has a womb. Perhaps the sex-change surgery I require would equal the difference on my premium.

This is your fault, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.

So yeah, if anyone can recommend me somewhere to get cheap insurance, it'd be much appreciated. Otherwise I'm gonna have to severely twist my mum's arm into adding me to her car insurance in the hope that I might get to do the Sunday morning church run every week.

Classic car insurance is way less money.

Insurance policy is totally stupid. I lucked out when I passed because I was working in car insurance at the time, but even with my 25% discount I was still paying £800. Ouch.
