I always look forward to Christmas. I don't feel as hyped up about it as I have done before, but I'm no longer 10 years old looking forward to an avalanche of Transformers and wrestling action figures when it comes to presents on Christmas Day.
For me, there's a few simple things which enjoy about Christmas, and here they are.
Time Off
This might be the biggest one for me, but Christmas is a time for rest. Granted, the build up to Christmas can be a bit frantic, as you run around like a headless

"That was a crackin' bit of penguin, love. We'll have to have that again next year." |
In today's hustle and bustle, it seems to me like everything goes faster and yet we don't often enough just stop and chill out. I don't get it when people decide to go abroad for Christmas- there's enough stress involved as it is without having to pile on the load by making sure your holiday somewhere exotic goes off without a hitch, too.
I'll stay at home, eat, drink, watch films and play games and just relax for a bit, thanks.
Pork Pie (and other assorted foods that we don't usually have)
I love pork pie. What of it?
I like pastry in general, but that's not the point. I just generally like getting nice things to eat at Christmas. Aside from Turkey and all the trimmings (because I regularly get a roast dinner on a Sunday, though not usually turkey), it's nice to have all the other little nibbles and "Christmas food"- y'know, pork pipes, cocktails sausages, Mini Cheddars, pickled onions and such. It usually finds its way out either Christmas evening or Boxing Day when you get visitors. I wish we'd have visitors all the time if it meant I got more pork pie.

I asked my mum if she had gotten a pork pie this year (because usually she does). I chastised her when she informed me to the contrary and became the Christmas Police, demanding that she get down to the butcher's pronto and order the best one they could get.
Games & DVDs
These days Christmas is odd if I didn't get any DVDs or video games as gifts. I'm sure I'll get at least like one DVD this year, though I'm not sure about games, since I'm trying to avoid playing anymore until I've finished the ones I've got.
Some of the plunder I got last year. I'd call that a good haul. |
I also love having the time to play games and watch films I already own. As I've said, there's a few games and DVDs I need to play/watch, and thanks to Christmas I should get chance to do that soon.
Endless Supplies of Chocolate
Let's be honest, who doesn't love eating chocolate at Christmas?
Okay, besides dogs and diabetics- but yeah, I love getting a mound of chocolate, It's nigh on inevitable that someone will get you a tin of Quality Street or something, and a Selection box of some variety (oddly, I didn't get any last year...).

I tend to empty the Quality Street out into a swimming pool and swim around in it like Scrooge McDuck. |
I tend not to buy myself chocolate, but when it's free, it always tastes better.
TV Christmas Specials
I don't really watch a whole lot of TV- but there's normally something interesting to watch on the box at Christmas.
Sadly this might not be true this year, as I no longer watch or care for Doctor Who and I don't think there's going to be a Royle Family Christmas Special this year.

The expression I'll be pulling this year as I flick through the TV guide and finding there is a distinct lack of The Royle Family. |
The Royle Family not being on is particularly gutting for me- though I'm kind of glad, because you can have too much of a good thing.
I seriously don't know what's on this year. Hopefully I'll have a surprise and there will be something decent on. The Queen's Speech isn't really enough to tide me over, even though I am fond of Her Majesty.
Well that's a few things that make Christmas enjoyable for me. Merry Christmas one and all, and a happy new year.
