Ogyhphoapbidciltsmiwttata!

Welcome to a new segment on Zombie Outbreak. The accurately named...

Old games you have probably heard of and played, but I don't care I love them so much I want to talk about them anyway!

Or Ogyhphoapbidciltsmiwttata! For short!

Final Fantasy 7.

What platform is it on?
PlayStation, Windows, PlayStation Network

What year did it come out?
1997

What is the point of it?
To save the world.

Why do you love it?
Final fantasy 7 was my first love in the world of gaming, I still remember renting it from the video shop, back when for me, gaming was just a sometimes hobby. I picked it up off the new release shelf and I only rented it because I had never played a game with more than one disc before. That first weekend, I played almost non stop for 3 days and nights. I got as far as Costa del Sol. Then I had to take it back.

A few days later, the game was mine. I loved every moment of it, the combat just worked for me, Materia was awesome, and even if that first play through I missed almost all the side quests, it is still one of my favourite times playing any game. I practically cried at the death scene, I laughed out loud during parts, and I watched, mouth open in amazement all the way through the final FMV.

I was a ten year old boy, and my life was changed forever.

I remember the Christmas after Final Fantasy 8 came out, my dad never got us kids video games for Christmas presents, he still won't as a matter of fact. But I begged and begged for Final Fantasy 8, and I got it under the tree that year.

I played it all boxing day all only because of my love for Final Fantasy 7.

Final Fantasy 8 is a great game, don't get me wrong, but in my eyes no game will ever mean as much to me as Final Fantasy 7. I have played every Final Fantasy game since and I have played all the ones that came before and none of them has ever made me feel the same as Final Fantasy 7.

To this day, I get a funny feeling in my heart when I hear any of the music from seven. When I can't sleep I play the game in my head, I know it so well that I can play through the entire game in my memory, and when I watched Advent Children for the first time, a tear ran down my cheek when the opening music played.

A masterpiece. Final Fantasy 7 will always be My Game.

Hitman: Blood Money.

What platform is it on?
Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2

What year did it come out?
2006

What is the point of it?
You play the main character agent 47 as you assassinate targets.

Why do you love it?
Hitman, for me is a game that I can spend many many hours playing, its not an action game, or an RPG, grinding won't make you any better at it, and while you can upgrade your weapons, once you really start to get the hang of this game, you never take any into the levels with you.

Instead the point of the game is to take your time on the levels, fail them over and over again until you learn the guards movements, learn the way the environment can be used to your advantage, learn how to get into the level, kill your targets so well it looks like an accident, then get out again without ever being seen.

Its a game you need patience and timing to excel at and that just floats my boat. It also appeals to the part of me that likes to explore in games, to find every hidden area and way to hide a body.

In the end when you figure out a level, work out the best way to kill your targets, and you sit and wait for a quarter of an hour while all the players to move into position. The moment when your plan comes together and everything goes exactly right. There is no feeling like it in video games.

I love it when a plan comes together.

The Secret of Monkey Island.

What platform is it on?
DOS, Atari ST, Mac OS, Amiga, Sega CD, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Live, iPhone, iPad, PlayStation Network, Mac OS X

What year did it come out?
1990

Whats the point of it?
To become a mighty pirate, and stop the evil ghost pirate LeChuck.

Why do you love it?
I have loved point and click adventure games for a really long time, The Secret of Monkey Island was not the first I played (that honour goes to Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders on the Commodore 64) But it is by far my favourite of the genre.

The humour of Monkey Island is exactly in line with my own, I have never laughed more during a game, the level design is perfect and the graphic style appeals to me so much that as soon as I get the money I plan on getting a Monkey Island sprite tattoo.

I have played it many many times over the years, I give myself a 6 month or so gap between plays to keep it fresh and I have brought it for almost ever console its been released on (I'll be getting the Ipad version as soon as I get an Ipad)

I have played all the sequels to the first monkey island game, played all the tales of monkey island games and loved them all. I believe the only reason I like the Pirates of the Caribbean films so much is because they remind me of Monkey Island. I can beat anyone at insult sword fighting, and I'm a master of Monkey Kombat.

I'm Monday Richard, and i'm a mighty pirate.

I started out wanting to talk about 6 games, but this ended up being a lot longer than I intended, so stay tuned next week for the next 3 games in Ogyhphoapbidciltsmiwttata!

Surprisingly enough, I have never played Final Fantasy 7, except the Chocobo Racing part.

I keep thinking I should rectify that, just have to wait for Voni to give in and buy it.

monkey island was good , i enjoyed bards tale 3 on the commodore amiga and discworld was interesting but annoying , i liked attic attack on the spectrum , elite obviously , avalon and dragon torc on the spectrum , there was an interesting one where you went to fight different tribes, dwarfs , giants etc by beating them in battle ( champion ) i think, you got the abilities of that race , horse riding , strength etc but only if you won which wasnt easy lol
