Pirates of the Caribbean.

I blood loved the pirates of the Caribbean film’s. I loved all the swash buckling adventures of captain Jack Sparrow, so as a result I loved everything to do with pirates. So when I came across a pirates of the Caribbean PC game in the discount bin a work I couldn’t help buying it and as it turns out it was actually surprisingly pretty good!

Following the adventures Nathan Hawk a pirate forced to start from the bottom after his ship and crew were lost in a storm. This open ended RPG shows no relation to it’s movie counterpart. With no mention of the original cast or storyline the only thing that connects the game to the film other then the name is you get a glimpse now and again of the black pearl and its cursed crew.

Set in a large ocean with a number of small islands each controlled by a different global powers. Britain, France, Spain etc. it plays a lot like typical GTA sandbox game taking jobs from different island authorities with other little side quest and caves to explore. Also being a pirate RPG you can captain you own ship and battle with other ships to capture there ship and cargo.

The controls in this game aren’t the best aspects of this game, walking around the towns is something like trying to drive a car everywhere in reverse. Sword play can take some getting use to but after that it gets a bit easy. But on the other hand controlling the ship is a lot better and gives the feel of controlling a real ship. ship to ship battles can be very challenging and use of tactics are very important and trying to get way from enemy ships you don’t want to fight get get quite tense although a bit slow.

I really enjoyed this game and spent hours sailing the seas battling pirates and stealing there ships, but it does have its problems, it crashed quite often and I never actually finished it because i found myself trapped on a beach unable to move in land or react my ship. Probably not as good as some of the other pirate RPG’s out there but as it only cost £5 I got more then my moneys worth.
