Hello, my name is Monday Richard.
As you may know, I’m the guy behind the art and layout of Zombie Outbreak.
That logo up there is my work as are all the art in my posts and can be seen at http://monday-richard.deviantart.com/
But I’ve been on the internet for a very long time.
Before I was known as Monday Richard, I was known on the internet as Gothicpie, before that I was known as Blue_Dragon_eggs, and before that as Last_Human_86
So for your amusement, and much mocking, I’m going to take a look at the evolution of my personal internet history. Complete with the some of the ‘art’ files I still have from that time.
This will be in a few parts, as there is a lot to go over, this week; I’m going to talk about my comic “Gothicpie”
Before I came up with the idea for Zombie Outbreak, I was happily drawing comics for a site I still own (although I have not updated it in a while) called Gothicpie.
You can see the current iteration of this by going to www.gothicpie.com and looking at it.
Go on, I’ll wait.
It looks like this...
And this…
I still like this a lot, but the problem with the comics always was, and still is, the fact that they were drawn completely in MSpaint.
This made them very time consuming, and not very good if I’m honest. I still toy with the idea of bringing it back someday, maybe drawn in a new way. but if you like the little i have shown you, why not go read the other still on the site? if enough people like it, it may drive me to start updating it again.
The comic you see on that site was briefly (5 issues or so) on page 3 of a German “Alternative” culture magazine called “Schockkultur Szenemagazin” in 2006. Somewhere I have the physical copies of the magazine, and if I could find them I would scan them in for you, but for now, you will just have to take my word on it.
Its hard to believe, but before that excellently drawn comic you see there, the Gothicpie Comic existed in another form, with even worse art, it looked like this.
And this.
And was called “Comic Jank”
The reason behind this name came from my time at high school, a friend of mine David Shuker used to use this work all the time, “Jank” Jank was a term used to describe anything that was not very good. So when I came to make my comic, I called it Comic Jank, because it was not very good… cleaver eh?
Back then the characters in Comic Jank where just people I knew in school, David Shuker is there, the red headed character, and him along with Richard Lewis made up the main cast of Comic Jank occasionally joined by other people I knew.
Belive it or not, this is the actual file I used to draw every single comic of the orginal Comic Jank.
So there you have it, a brief look into my foray into the world of webcomics.
Join me next week for a look at my personal evolution of website design.
