Synopsis: Goodreads:

Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

My Review:

So many feelings right now! For Tris, for the author, for Tobias... Just so many feelings. I've been waiting so long to get my hands on a copy of this book, so when I received an email from Sally telling me I'd won a copy of it on her blog, I was over the moon! Finally, a book I wanted to read and would be able to read despite the lack of money!

I was able to start reading Divergent a few days ago, but found due to exams it wasn't going to be easy to continue reading. So after my exam yesterday, I came home, sulked and then read Divergent. Then today, I did two practise essays and read just over 300 pages! Honestly, I didn't want to put this book down. Ever. It was so good! It was a fast paced book also, which meant I was reading quickly to keep up with the action, almost as if it was happening real time!

Now then, in the future everyone is split into 5 factions.

  • Abnegation who believe in Selfishness
  • Amity who believe in Kindness
  • Candor who believe in Honesty and Truth
  • Dauntless who believe in Bravery
  • and finally Erudite who believe in Knowledge

And at the age of 16, everyone is put through an aptitude test which'll tell them which faction they'd suit! Then they get to chose at the choosing ceremony (but eek! it involves slicing open your palm and letting some blood drip into a bowl - depending on the faction you chose!). Of course, just like every dystopian novel, there is always a catch. The motto here is 'faction before blood' and unfortunately that means, if you pick a different faction to the one your family is in, you have to say goodbye.. for good.

Now, I didn't want to talk about the romance in this book, because I could talk about it for days... but I guess I have to! FOUR AND TRIS <3 You'll hopefully love the romance they have as much as I did. I'm a huge fan of Four because he was dangerous, and gentle and brave and just everything.

It's got me thinking though, about which faction I'd be in... And I think I decided on Amity... I consider myself kind? I mean, I have my moments where I'm not... but I'm certainly not always the others... Amity seems to be the closest!

What faction do you think you'd be in?

Rating: 5/5
