A welcome and a moan...

Hello I’m Saturday Shanice and I'll be filling you in with my rants reviews and recipes as well as any other strange goings on in my head. Oh and all things Japanese!

Ok so my big dilemma right know is what to do with my hair. I have afro-Caribbean hair but I’ve had it relaxed (chemically straightened) since I was 9years old. I’ve now reached the point where I’m thinking why am I going through this expensive, time consuming and sometimes painful routine? It’s because I want long locks. Well this isn’t going to happen with my type of hair. It will grow upwards and outwards but never down and straight. There’s no point straightening it either, it just frazzles.

I’ve found there are a lot of other women in the same predicament. They spend lots of time and money trying to achieve, well let’s face it, Caucasian hair but have now realised they can go natural, ditching the chemicals and embracing their afros.

Look at Naomi Campbell, it may be hair extensions but you can still see my point, women just aren’t wearing it natural any more.

After deciding to go natural, I have to now transition my hair. This is the process where I grow out my hair without treating it. As I have about six inches of relaxed hair I have to make the decision whether to cut it all off (The Big Chop) or just continue growing my hair from my new growth and gradually cut it. I’ve opted to keep it as I don’t want a cold head.

As I'm quite impatient I’ve bought some extensions to cover up the baby afro. I now just have to care for my hair with a range of oils and potions for the next year until I get a nice fro going on. I can’t wait!

If I didn't do anything to my hair, mothers would cover their children's eyes whilst screaming in horror...

It's like a beast I have to tame :)
