Some of these music 'memes' are quite entertaining, but some can be annoying. Even if they were entertaining to begin with. Crazy, but it happens! To start with, one of the first I came across was the 'Numa Numa' video. Now, I know this was a real song before this came out but it was due to the internet that it became even more popular. All it took was a guy of a larger build to become bored enough to record himself miming and 'dancing' along to this song and voilà a hit was born!
Next shall be the song 'Chocolate Rain'. Which is essentially just a guy singing a song that he had written and made the music for, surely nothing out of the ordinary. Except he has a voice that really does not match him. This caused an instant hit, causing many a parody including one from the drummer 'Tré Cool' from 'Green Day' and another from 'Chad Vader' both of which are quite amusing to say the least!
After that one, for a while I don't recall much of a music 'meme' sticking out until I heard 'Caramelldansen'. Which I first heard being woken up to by Monday Richard's alarm that scared the living daylights of out myself! He then went on to showing me what it was, entertaining mildly. It was more of the dance that made it a worldwide thing to do, many a video can be seen at conventions and the like of groups of people performing it. To be fair, it's not a hard dance to do, once you see it, you will understand.
I'm sure you've heard about the next one that will be on this list. What is that? You haven't? It's a song that features something of an ornithological nature. What am I talking about you might ask? I thought that everybody had heard...
I'm sorry it had to be done. Moving on, next was a strange one that features a guy that looks like plastic, doesn't look like he's actually singing, nor does it sound like actual words. Yes, it's the one and only 'Trololo Guy'. This one is an easy one to sing along to and whilst singing might become stuck in your head.
The next lot on this list are ones that I have recently discovered, some are catchy, some are amusing, some are just annoying...
We'll start with the song 'Double Rainbow' done by the guys that do 'Auto-tune The News'. Before this was made into a song, it was basically a hippy looking guy managing to catch a double rainbow on film and getting quite a bit emotional about it. Seriously, you hear him crying and everything! Crazy! Anyway, due to it being popular they ended up making it into a song, which I am sad to say, is quite good. Very catchy chorus! Once you hear it, you'll be hearing it in your head for a while, trust me.
Another from the 'Auto-tune The News' lot is the song 'Backin' Up'. This started off as a news report about a robbery at a convenience store in America with an interview with a quite eccentric lady. Due to her repeating the phrase 'I was backin' up, backin' up, backin' up' and also providing the visual of her doing so, it was quiet simple for the group to turn that into a very, very catchy chorus. I heard it once and was singing it for the next few days.
This next one is from a website that has been around for a very long time. Most people who frequent the internet will at least have heard of the site, Weebl's Stuff. Now, I know there have been many a song to come from this site but this one is one that I've been hearing quite alot recently, again I blame Monday Richard for this. It is a song about a horse. An amazing horse in fact and if you give it a lick you will found out that it tastes just like raisins. Think about that one eh?
Last but not least, one that has only been circulating for just over a week, 'Friday' by 'Rebecca Black'. Quite a lot of people will have heard it most likely by now and will have wished they hadn't. I too, am one of them. It started off with her getting a company called 'ARK Music Factory' to give her lyrics to sing and provided her with a music video for it. Shame the lyrics are quite bad and her way of singing 'Friday' is quite annoying to say the least! Unfortunately, she is actually making money from this song which just says it all about what the music of today is becoming!!
I do apologise for subjected you all to these songs that will more than likely become stuck inside your head for days to come. Don't worry, give it a week or so and there will most likely be a lovely new song to entertain/annoy us!
I know there are many more of these out there but there will never be enough time in the world to go through the whole of them! So, I will leave you with one final internet meme song that you will enjoy!
Feel free to post your favourite musical 'meme' in the comments below while I am played out by Keyboard Cat!
