The post where he rants about Doctor Who.
Everyone knows about Doctor Who it need very little introduction. It’s been around on and off over 45 year which make it the longest running and most popular Sci-fi series ever.
And not a lot of you will know it is my most favourite TV show ever. a lot of people will say that in recent years but I’ve been fascinated with it since a very young age when I first saw a very funnily dressed Sylvester McCoy running about chased by metal men. I don’t know what it is I like about I guess it has something to do with how mental it is, think about if today you where to pitch at show to the BBC about a man who travels though time and space in a old police telephone box fighting giant pepper pots you’d find your self with a weekly visit from a physiatrist. Even the older series compared to today’s standards impresses me, yes it was cheaply made and the costumes and acting was laughable ( literarily) but when you look past that it was really well written ( most of it anyway) and a really lovable show.
So when after so long I found out that it was being revamped in 2005 I was overcome with excitement and it was good. The first series worked out a lot better then expected but I could help notice a steady decline in the quality of the stories, you know what I mean Daleks going extinct ever other week, everyone in the world praying to the doctor etc. the problem lye with the producer and head writer Russell T Davis who although was one of the people behind Doctor Who return as rise in popularity he managed to fuck it up at the same time, which is pretty impressive when you thing about it. I personally didn’t start taking notice until the 5th series when Steven Moffet succeeded Russell T Davis as head writer and the show started to improve, it wasn’t perfect but it was a huge improvement.
The shows second rebranding prompted a sea of stupid complaints from some people of late. One of which being the Dalek hiatus, after the last series which features a revamp of the Daleks it was decided to shelve the popular villains for awhile mostly because they had been appeared far to many times in recent years and they where always defeated easily ever time which kind of turned them into a bit of a joke.
As they are always labelled as the Doctors most feared enemy it makes it harder to see why. The other complaints that has surfaced during the latest series is “the show is to scary for kids” and “ it’s to complicated for kids to understand.” Bollocks to them, firstly it’s not complicated and even if it was its not a bad thing to challenge you peoples intellect and encouraging them to work out what’s happening for them selves and the same with the show being to scare, nothing wrong with a some scary stories it helps to build character and the last thing you want to do is wrap children in cotton wool. (figuratively and literally) and most importantly if these complaints really reflected the views of the views the rating wouldn’t be as high as they have been.
Rant over..
